Tv specials - Lead colour concept - Magic Light

 

Through 2014 and 2016 I worked on and off on those two half-hour animated films adapted from the book "Revolting Rhymes", a collection of poems written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake. 
I worked closely with the directors Jakob Schuh, Jan Lachauer, and Bin-Han To, to develop the colour, painting style and lights of the films.
The production process later on was very interesting: I was painting the sets in "white light" directly above the camera view of the cgi BG models, then those paintings were directly used as textures (although a team of texture artists had to clean up some areas and extend the paintings on the hidden faces of the models). To be used as textures I had to provide the paintings with no light/shadow, though during the process I had to do a quick lighting pass, with basic dark shadows to have a better idea of how it would look like once lit. This is the version of the images I'm sharing below:
